think i'm mugging too much

juz now was in the library mugging in one of those covered cubicle-like table. Then suddenly i kept hearing whispers. And it was quite late at nite.. quite dark already. And when I turned ard i saw no one around me.

OMG! I got a friggin shock

I thot damn 邪门... always heard NTU was haunted but cant believe this is happening to me.

I stood up quickly, and then proceeded to pack my stuff trying to "zao lorh".

THEN I HEARD IT AGAIN! Whispers whispers whispers... wah biang i felt a chill going up my spine.

I turned around slowly...... damn scared.. freaked out..... thought i was mugging too hard liao.. die die die even ghosts oso wanna disturb me.

WAH BIANG!!! I saw these 2 PRCs whispering away behind me!! KNS!!!!!!! Scare me outta my wits!!!! WAH LAU EH!!!!

Oh btw thanks for all ur concern feeling so much better now hahahaha. But muggin advanced biochem AND advanced biophysics AND virology AND immunology AND bioinformatics is proving to be a total bitch. Especially after i spent an entire day memorising mechanisms for biochem and could only finish half a lecture godamnit.

And exams are coming and I juz finished FIVE rpts in the past TWO weeks and I got ONE more to complete by this week and I got ONE more that's going to come the next friday which is exactly ONE week before my exams so u can see what's making me f*cking stressed up. The profs dun give a damn.

To do list

I need to do my laundry.
I need to fold my clothes.
I need to iron my 'hospital' shirts.
I need to handwash my delicate tops.
I need to read all my journal articles.
I need to critically appraise the studies.
I need to consolidate the information.
I need to compile a list of references.
I need to write up my systematic review.
I need to pack everything into boxes.
I need to move the boxes into the lugguage room.
I need to move out of halls by Saturday.
I need to study for my exams.
I need to stop blogging.
I need to sleep.

When I am tired and stressed, I start to hallucinate.
And I think I just heard Lee hom tell me to jia you.

It'll all be over in 3 weeks.
Then it'll be the hols!

damn i'm really dying. I got an autoimmune disease. My immune system is attacking my hair follicles and thats the reason why i'm losing hair. The diagnosis is that its due to stress. Dunno abt that. Man i hate this.. doc said thank god i went to him before i became bald.... if not it would be hard to treat. Treatment would span a course of 2 to 6 months and oh freak costs loads of $$!!!!

damn! To think i juz learned about autoimmune diseases this morning!

Share a story here with u pple. Dunno if the rest have heard, but it happened in England and it caused quite an uproar over there so Ja should know. But in Singapore most of the newspapers didnt really report it.

It's about this clinical trial gone terribly wrong. My prof told us about it.

There's this trial in England testing a drug for Leukemia or the likes. Some cancer of the blood. 6 trial subjects were injected with the drug. Within minutes of the injection, they were screaming in pain. They felt like their head was exploding and their bodies were burning. In a while, all were comatose. Even now, 2 are still in critical condition. The rest will have to live with permanent disability.

What happened? The drug is an activating antibody of CD2 of our T cells, which means CD2 can be activated even without binding CD58 on the antigen-presenting cells. So the co-stimulatory check is lost.

What this means in layman terms is, they were attempting to stop the proliferation of B cells by using this antibody. But they forgot something. Using this antibody will also activate the T cells, which means they go into overdrive, attacking all our own body cells. Yes autoimmune. Cos usually the CD2 holds a check so our immune system don't attack our own body cells. Something like that. They over-activate the CD2, the immune system will start attacking our own body cells.

The subjects now all suffer from organ damages, mostly irreversible. Most probably will have to be on drugs all their lives.

What is the controversy here is this.

This is a total conceptual error that any good university student can point out to you. But yet somehow the higher level you go the simpler things seem too obscure and u stop noticing them.

And another question is this. The official statement is that the drug never gave such a reaction with animal trials. But according to 'inside info' yea my prof told us that apparently the trials with chimpanzees, a very close relatives of humans, gave a similar reaction but they carried on the trial with humans anyway.

Also, why did they inject all 6 subjects at once? If they had waited just minutes between each injection, 4 or 5 subjects will have been saved the torture of this.

K i know i'm boring u guys. ahaha but anyway i got a milder version of an autoimmune disease. Hope it wont get worse!

I jus got myself a new laptop at the IT fair a few days ago! I think it's a really good bargain. Haha!

I wanted a Fujitsu laptop originally. But it was kind of expensive.. plus the model that is within my budget doesn't have bluetooth or infrared? So my dad sorta pulled me to one side and ask me to consider other brands! But seriously, once my mind is made up... it's really really really hard to change my mind. So I kindda sulk and went ard unwillingly to find out more about the other laptops.

春之雪

I was woken from my slumber this morning by a gorgeous golden streak of sunshine that peeped into the room through a gap between my curtains. Feebly, I pried my eyelids apart, ready to greet the new morning with a snort... only to discover a pristine white blanket lying atop the barren branches of the tree outside my window. But... But it's March! It's supposed to be springtime! The daffodils have just begun to blossom and the days are growing longer... how can there be snow?

Despite how much I didn't believe it to be true, the snow was real... and thick. I loved the fluffy, virgin white carpet that it formed on the Carnatic lawn. It looked almost like icing on a cake- delicious. I was especially enticed by the flakes that fell upon the deep green leaves of holly trees. Their V-shaped leave blades held the lovely ice crystals like ice-cream in a cup... with juicy red holly berries serving as an extra topping! Oh the splendor of winter's prodigy! I could just stare out at nature's masterpiece for hours on end. How amazing, how romantic, how breathtaking.

Nevertheless, as the Chinese saying aptly puts it, “好花不常开，好景不常在。” The morning's beauty was quickly marred by the copious footprints that man left in his wake. The purity of snow was soon turned tar-black by fumes and dirt that vehicles expectorated. The serenity of dawn was broken by coughs, spits and human voices. As the day progressed on, snow was turned to slush... what was pretty and exciting soon became a thorn in the flesh, as man tip-toed and hopped over the disgusting black puddles it left behind. It is a shame to think of how short-lived snow's grandeur has been... a good experience nonetheless... but I guess once is really quite enough.

Oops, sorry guys and girls. I didn't mean to rant on about the weather (which most English people seem to enjoy doing)... but I just thought it'd been interesting to share some experiences with you? If you don't think so then just leave a tag and I promise to stop doing that again in the future. Anyway, I'd love to see JX's new hairstyle!! Please please please post a picture of yourself Ms Chan? lol... and you know what, I'm almost done with eating the CNY goodies you girls sent... so sad! I'll write a reply to your letter back soon... after my exams I reckon. So u all wait patiently ah. =) Oh! And I'm wondering whether you have all been applying for electives overseas? Keep me updated!
